Child of Elder Parent in ICU

SERVICES

My Patient Advocate goal is to work on behalf of patients and families, through all ages and stages of life, to help to navigate the complex healthcare system. As a highly experienced and educated Registered Nurse, I will tirelessly advocate for your rights and wishes with compassion and industry expertise.
WHY YOU NEED AN ADVOCATE

A private patient advocate is an experienced healthcare professional that provides unbiased assistance to help you or a loved one. We are not compensated by healthcare organizations or insurance companies. We represent and support patients and families to ensure their medical and financial interests are supported and protected.

We are there to guide you when you are overwhelmed in often, the most difficult of circumstances. Think of us as your trusted neighborhood nurse. The one you go to, to ask questions and confide in. We have the know-how, to get you or your loved ones what you need. We want you to get what we get our own families. We advocate getting the very best. We will sit next to them to ensure it happens. I was always taught to treat patients like family. That is still my commitment to you.

While nurse advocates are well versed in the healthcare system, their scope of practice does not allow them to give medical advice, make medical or legal decisions, diagnose disease processes or prescribe medication/therapies.

WHAT WE DO

Services provided by the advocate are based on an analysis of the needs of the client. Nurse advocates can:

  • decipher medical bills and insurance claims to avoid higher financial liability, 80-95% are incorrect

  • provide education to facilitate understanding of an illness

  • empower you to make decisions from an informed and educated standpoint

  • assist with researching and coordinating resources/support services

  • reestablish V.A. benefits

  • find safe, quality rated facilities in an appropriate care setting; whether short term skilled nursing for physical rehab, nursing home placement/long term care, assisted living, group home, a chemical dependency/dual diagnosis rehab, a mental health facility, CCRC, day care for elders/ disabled, respite care for caregivers

  • get cost $$ before procedures

  • attend doctor appointments with you or a loved one

  • ensure all your health providers are communicating on the same page, YOURS!

  • bedside visits in hospital, if alone or anxious preop/postop, watch your recovery transition smoothly

  • help arrange to have the ‘difficult’ conversation when a change in status or health occurs

  • obtain & arrange health documents such as health care proxies & advance directives to be in place

  • help with insurance enrollment

  • facilitate plans with solo-agers

  • help with aging parents by facilitating a plan in an acute situation or plan for future

  • end of life planning with professionals, you deserve a supported good death

  • grief management/resources for different stages/losses of life; perinatal, child, teen, parent loss

  • orchestrating vacation plans with illness, getting durable equipment set up at destination

  • setting up surprises for chronic/terminally ill/last wishes; alternative spiritual therapy such as special needs/service animals or music therapy

These are just a few of the many services a nurse advocate can provide. If you think you or a loved one can benefit from the support and expertise of a nurse advocate, please reach out to receive information specific to your unique situation. We offer a free 15- minute phone consultation. Email is HIPPA compliant, confidential, and safely encrypted for your protection. Video chats are available for family at a distance. “My mother had a stroke last summer in the midst of the pandemic. I am an only child. Sybil told me what professionals to contact right away. I had no idea any of these resources were available. No one talks about this stuff until it’s crisis mode. It was so helpful, it gave me a sense of relief.”
